ELF Module 8 – Dancing 

Module 8 is themed dancing. Students build on their knowledge of the letter sounds to read and spell real and nonsense words.

Learning Activities

1. Following instructions – students learn a simple dance routine.
2. Reading – students cut shapes and glue them into the correct places to make nonsense words. This is also a cutting and gluing task requiring students to cut straight lines on irregular shapes.
3. Phonological awareness – students explore swapping the sounds in words to make new words.
4. Spelling – students spell real and nonsense cvc words using all sounds.
5. Handwriting – write the alphabet with a focus on letter formation and placement.
6. Language development – teachers read books to the students and discuss the content using Blanks Questions as a basis to extend language and vocabulary. Training in Blanks Questions is available at Blanks Questions Training
7. Write their first name and surname. The students initially trace the letter and learn where to place the letters on the red and blue lines.
8. Sight words – students are exposed to and play games focusing on the Pink words from Magic Words.
