ELF Module 7 – Aliens 

Module 7 is themed Aliens. Now the students can identify initial and final sounds we move onto blending and segmenting cvc words (consonant vowel consonant e.g. cat, dog, mum, dad).

Learning Activities

1. Following instructions – students pretend to be an astronaut and complete space related tasks.
2. Blending – teachers present the sounds for a nonsense words and students blend the sound to make the word.
3. Reading Alien names – students match shapes to complete the Alien names.
4. Phonological awareness – students play games where they manipulate different sounds to make new words e.g. change cat to fat, change tap to pat.
5. Spell cvc words – students have completed all 26 letters and their sounds so they use these to spell real and nonsense cvc words.
6. Handwriting -students have been taught all 26 letters so they now merge their alphabet knowledge and write the alphabet. At this stage they may need to copy the letters from an alphabet strip. The focus is on letter formation and correct placement on the lines.
7. Alphabet – say the alphabet in order, be aware of l m n o p clarity. Students also identify vowel and consonant letters.
8. Language development – teachers read books to the students and discuss the content using Blanks Questions as a basis to extend language and vocabulary. Training in Blanks Questions is available at Blanks Questions Training
9. Write their first name and surname.
10. Sight words – students are exposed to and play games focusing on the Violet words from Magic Words.
